Success Scored a Graded Jeter RC and Crosby Young Guns

Been a long time since I posted to share more home based sports card business but I am back to share my failures and successes.  Currently I think I can finally say that I am starting to experience some success.  Lets hope it continues.

How have I become successful selling cards online, by finding some great deals on large sports card lots.  When I first started purchasing cards to sell online I purchased large lots on ebay.  This was not a wise decision since I was unable to see all the cards in the lots.  Recently I have began to purchase large collections on kijiji this has been a greater way to find sports cards for really cheap.

My first purchase included lots of older cards and a large lot of some newere cards including those dreaded early 90's cards.  Among the cards was a Tony Esposito RC, Sidney Crosby Young Guns, and many other great scores.  These cards I have recently started to sell on ebay.

A day later I made another trip an hour up the road.  This set included a massive collection of Topps baseball cards from the mid 1980's up until 2000.  Among the best and most interesting cards I recieved from this purchase was a Murphy Stadium Dome Set and several graded Derek Jeter cards.

Now back to selling them online.  I will keep everyone up to date on how my performance goes with online sales.

Sales Sportslots 100% Ebay 0%

I have tried out both sites and so far I still only have sales through Sportslots.  I have tried to sell through both ebay and Sportslots but I have found no success on ebay.  Through some research I have found out through some reading that one of the ways to increase sales on ebay is to take a hit on your initial sales.  For example make the price start at zero.

Well I have a concern with this concept.  I have actually already tried selling a few cards with very low reserves and they still did not sell.  I was actually very disappointed and also discouraged.  Will I try again.  Of course I will.  I have thought about trying to sell a Rodney Stuckey RC and a John Tavares RC and take the risk that I earn little to nothing on the sale.  We'll see how it goes.

As for Sportslots my sales continue to go relatively well.  I just reached $50 in sales not counting auctions.  Not to bad.  As for the auctions I'll admit I took a bit of a hit on my listings there.  I sold a Josh Freeman Rookie and Stars GU # /50 for only $0.50 and a John Tavares Ovation RC only reached $8.50 but atleast they sold.  Also considering the $0.15 listing fee I can't complain.

Hopefully I can get my first ebay sale in the next week or so.  We'll see.  I'm interested in knowing others tips on how to get started on ebay.  Feel free to pass on your advice.

Did I Make A Bad Purchase

At first there is the initial excitement of your purchase.  The rush.  The deal.  Wow what a steal.  This is how I felt after my most recent purchase on Ebay.

Recently I have started selling and purchasing sports cards.  In the past sports card collecting was a hobby of mine.  As life goes you sometimes become to busy that you can not keep up with some of your hobbies or passions.  This would be true of my card collecting.  Well recently I have gotten back into it for a couple of reasons.  Now I both collect cards and sell the unwanted ones.

Well recently I have made a couple of purchases in order to build up an inventory of cards to sell.  I did little research but I KNOW WHAT IS A GREAT DEAL.  So I thought atleast.  Well maybe I should have done more research after all.

My first purchase was a lot of cards.  I thought wow what a great deal.  The lot included low count game used cards and some autos.  Little did I realize that now days these cards are not the most desired.  Now everyone wants the combo cards.  Oh No.  Well hopefully some of the cards will sell.  So far I have managed to sell two cards out of the lot.  Both were not exactly cards that I thought I would sell but atleast it is a couple of dollars back in my pocket.  I still am trying to sell a Hines Ward Game Used Bowman Sterling, Tony Gwynn four colour game used, and many other cards.  Since I paid $400 I have to try and get a decent return on the dollar.  I'll keep you posted.

Second major purchase was a lot of 2007-08 Ultra basketball Jumbo packs.  Didn't realize the only inserts were Snap Shots.  Sure Beckett lists them as good value but little does that mean.  I am hoping that this one turns out better than the first.  Atleast I have a bunch of Rodney Stuckey, Aaron Brooks, and Carl Landry RC's.  The big problem with this purchase was the fact that I spent $49 on the product (great deal) but $60 on the shipping (bad move).

Well let me know if you want any cards from the base set of 2007-08 Ultra basketball.  I only have 3200 to sell.  Let the deals begin.

Cheers

Where to Post an Auction- Ebay or Sportlots

Currently I am having a debate over where to post an auction on an item.  It is a John Tavares Ovation RC.  There is a couple of ways to go.  Sportlots.com or ebay.  Either are good options but the decision is not always clear.

What a Day

This has been a great day for sales of hockey cards.  Just managed to sell four more cards.  I managed to sell two of each Crosby and Fleury 2009-10 Ovation Cards.  Quite happy with how things are going on Sportlots

I have found it to be a pretty good site so far for selling cards.  Also it makes you keep your cards organized which is also a benefit.  Still adding more cards.  Have to add a couple hundred 2009-10 Victory cards.

Feel free to email me if you are looking for any card in particular I'll see if I have it.

Anyways signing off for now.

Tebow What a Game

Just wanted to quickly comment on the game last night.  I am not a Tebow fan but wow.  He looked good and it shows you the right system can work with athletic quarterbacks.  Hopefully he does find success at the next level in the NFL.

It is funny how everyone keeps questionning his skill set.  He is big, athletic, and competitive.  Usually that is all a football team is looking for in a quarterback.  Sometimes it is better to go to a smaller school and not have everyone know all your weaknesses.

Will he succeed we will have to wait and see.  But for now he can say that he has been very successful.
